Inside Raven

Meet a #RavIntern: Palak Bansal, Data Science Intern

Meet Palak

Palak Bansal is a graduate student at New York University pursuing a Master's degree in Data Science. She completed her undergraduate studies in Information Technology at the Manipal Institute of Technology in India and has over 3 years of combined experience in software and data science prior to starting her master's program.

Palak has been drawn to Data Science since her first research project on Natural Language Processing in 2018, when she made the subject her minor in undergrad. Since then, Palak has pursued multiple internships in Data Science and is working this summer at Raven’s Scottsdale engineering office.

I was drawn to Raven for a couple of reasons. First, the farming industry being an unexplored domain for me. This presented an opportunity to add unique projects to my portfolio which is crucial as a Data Science student. Second, with Raven being a leader in the industry, I was assured of receiving brilliant mentorship and the chance to work alongside top talent, which was very valuable to my learning.

Summer at Raven

As a Data Science Intern, Palak works with predictive modeling and statistical analysis to enhance Raven’s machine learning. Over the summer, Palak has focused on Raven’s RS1’s GPS capabilities for seamless navigation by understanding and addressing GPS drops. Her team also worked extensively with geospatial data and geospatial hotspot analysis.

Palak was excited to apply her statistical knowledge in a practical context on a project with the potential for a substantial impact on Raven and the industry. An internship goal she accomplished was learning about end-to-end development through collaboration with data engineers and researchers. She also got to drive and see in action the autonomous products she’d been working on, which was a unique and memorable experience. After Raven, she hopes to become a full-time data scientist, lead data projects, and research AI.

Fun Facts about Palak

1. Tell us a fun fact about yourself! Funnily enough, as someone working on enhancing navigation capabilities of autonomous vehicles, I’m very bad at navigation myself and frequently get lost on the streets of Manhattan. More seriously, I’m very actively involved in initiatives for diversity. Among other things, I have been mentoring girls in Nigeria for over 2 years now.

2. Which of Raven’s core values resonates with you the most? Among Raven's core values, "Drive" strongly resonates with me. Just like Raven's Drive for bold and thoughtful action with a clear sense of purpose, I've consistently pushed myself to take thoughtful actions to learn and progress in my academic and professional journey.
