Manusmriti Budhathoki moved to Sioux Falls from Kathmandu, Nepal and is majoring in Economics, Finance, and French at Augustana University. She had specialized in physics and math in high school and considered going into engineering as a career. Instead, she found a passion and skill for business in university.
Manusmriti’s primary duty at Raven this summer is to enhance reports and dashboards with PowerBI, a Microsoft business intelligence software. She visualizes Raven’s data in charts, tables, and graphs so they are easy to quickly understand. Her work helps team members make better decisions by seeing Raven’s information in a simplified and data-driven way. She also expedites our processes by training the program to update itself, compared to programs like Excel that need human moderation. Learning this software was a new experience for Manusmriti – one she enjoyed enough she’s considering career options to keep using it.
Manusmriti commended her mentor for giving her time to learn and implement without pressure and with plenty of support from her team. Her favorite thing about working for Raven is the openness and curiosity exhibited in her team members.
It’s very different from what I’m used to. Back home in Nepal, farming is still very traditional and there isn’t really the same big agricultural industry and emphasis on technology to grow things. Wanting to explore that exciting difference is what drew me to Raven.

1. Which of Raven’s core values resonates with you the most? Humility, because I think having an open mind always gives you space to grow and learn from other people.
2. Tell us a fun fact about yourself! I have great luck with finding people to host me as I couch-surf. I travel and go backpacking as often as I can and have visited the East Coast, Norway, and the UK in the past two years.
