Raven is committed to supporting students at all levels and fostering interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers. Wherever students are on their academic journey, Raven is dedicated to helping them succeed.
The Raven internship program hosts interns from across the nation who are seeking to make an impact in the agriculture technology sector. The program, which has grown steadily since its creation, brings interns to our company so they can help farmers serve the world. Raven’s 2023 internship class featured 79 interns who worked in departments across the company on projects that are delivering results.
Driving Key Results this Summer
Throughout the summer, Training and Content Creation Intern Allison Sundquist worked on understanding the ins and outs of her team and the content creation cycle. As an intern, Allison was given a major project to restructure the training and content creation team. The team plans to continue growing, so Allison determined what the roles of a bigger team would look like. She also created documents that can be utilized to streamline processes once the team is larger.
Allison was given freedom to develop the project as she wanted while receiving ongoing support from her mentor, Trainer III Jeffrey Haper. Raven’s strong mentorship program is designed to give interns opportunities to work closely with their mentors while still allowing interns to work independently. For Allison, this was evident in her work with Jeffrey.
What I enjoyed most about having a mentor was that I was given a project with few parameters, and my mentor allowed me to take it in the direction of my choosing.
— Allison Sundquist, Training and Content Creation Intern
Software Engineer Intern Deepak Govindarajan also felt the freedom to grow and learn throughout the summer. Deepak worked on the Raven Operating System team, which creates the software seen in Viper® 4+ field computers. Deepak’s internship started in the spring, which gave him the opportunity to work on a variety of big projects.
During the summer, Deepak worked on integrating a feature into weather station data that will allow operators to determine optimal spraying conditions, making it simple for them to know when to spray. Outside of his individual projects, Deepak worked closely with his team to achieve their objectives, which was impactful for him because it united him with the team.
Becoming a Raven intern is not only a privilege, but it’s also a transformative experience. The internship provides an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your chosen field while being mentored by seasoned professionals. It's an invaluable steppingstone for anyone seeking to excel in their career.
— Deepak Govindarajan, Software Engineer Intern
Developing the Internship Program Year Round
Raven interns are onsite during the summer months, but for our team members, the internship program is in progress every month of the year.
Advancing the internship program is a continuous effort, with the internship program team working together year round to find the talented individuals who join us each summer. We meet students where they are, whether in high school, pursuing college degrees, or recently graduated.
Raven’s Engineering Career Day is one of the ways our team members work to connect with high school students during the school year. At the event, students learn about career paths available in engineering, and they hear directly from our engineers on how working in the agriculture technology sector will make a difference around the world. Engineering Career Day attendees have been known to further their interest in STEM, and some have later become Raven interns.
At Raven, we believe in nurturing tomorrow's innovators by kindling a passion for STEM education. Our commitment is to empower young minds — turning curiosity into capability and potential into progress — so that we can cultivate a brighter future together.
— Bridget Sea, Talent Acquisition Manager
Students are given other opportunities to see Raven during the school year, including manufacturing tours that showcase how our technology is built. Seeing this firsthand allows students to understand what manufacturing operations look like, giving them a full understanding of the technology development cycle.
Looking Forward
Our team members will soon begin their fall career fair circuit, during which time they will meet face-to-face with potential interns and share what it means to be a Raven intern. As the school year begins, our team members are preparing to meet the next group of interns who will help farmers serve the world.
